Robert Boehringer

More than many of George's other disciples, Robert Boehringer stands as the exemplar of promoting and preserving George's legacy. Boehringer joined George's Circle at the early age of twenty and spent his entire life being loyal to the poet. In his biography on George, Robert Norton speaks of Boehringer, saying, "Tenacious, politically stainless, and unwaveringly loyal, Boehringer made it his mission after George's death and especially after World War Two, to obtain any piece of information, especially unpublished manuscripts, related to George and his friends" (347). Because Boehringer was George's legal heir (Norton 347), he was able to acquire many of the materials that George possessed in his life. He even oversaw the archive in Stuttgart that safekeeps the world's largest collection of materials pertaining to George (Norton 347).

Boehringer's devotion to George, particularly the archival means he took in which to show it, suggest to me that Boehringer might have been the one amongst George's Circle to appreciate this digitization project the most. He tirelessly aimed to maintain the reputation of the poet, so I imagine that he would have been appreciative of any project that endeavors to preserve George's own legacy. In some ways, I see this digitization project as a continuation of his own works.
